My joyful collaboration with Joe Lovano began in 2004, when I produced his website. Then we started documenting his musical life on video and posting it on the web. In December 2005, I captured his Nonet in performance at the Village Vanguard, in rehearsal with Gunther Schuller, and during an Avatar studios recording session. That twelve hours of video became this video scrapbook. I produced these short videos to give new listeners an easily accessible, entertaining introduction to Joe’s music. And for his worldwide fans, these videos serve as multimedia liner notes, providing an insightful overview of the recording process. My work with Jazz musicians has always focused their stories and this Video Scrapbook tells many interesting tales, which serve to significantly enhance the user experience. |
