Joe Lovano: Remembering John Hicks

During the last 30 years living in NY knowing and sharing the bandstand with John Hicks has elevated me musically, spiritually and personally.

His feeling, sound and ideas were as natural as the air we breath.

The wisdom and knowlege he gave us in every chorus is beyond words. John played with equal balance with any drummer and was with every note with you as a soloist, he made a rhythm section feel like a rhythm section and contributed as a soloist at the highest level.

The sparks would be flying from the first beat to the last !!!! I remember every gig we played together as well as every time we hung out or I heard him with others.

John Hicks will always be with me in every note I play!! His contribution with my Nonet recordings made them what they are and what he was all about.---- THE TRUTH.

Here's to the Celebration of Life and Life Everlasting.....
